WHO IS NAIIVE ?

I'm a French illustrator specializing in linocut printmaking, and I arrange my prints like philosophical tales or poems in which nature is a breadcrumb trail.

Beaucoup trop heureuse de profiter d’un grand soleil ces derniers jours ! ☀️ 🌱

Je suis entrain de préparer une petite surprise aux bordelais qui aiment flâner. Que pensez-vous de ces mini gravures ? J’appelle déjà mes petites estampes des « mini prints ». Du coup j’ai envie d’appeler celles-ci des « mimi prints », on valide ? 😆

J’avance à mon rythme en ce moment. Après avoir terminé le kakémono des Lotus, j’ai passé plusieurs jours avec des douleurs à l’épaule qui m’empêchaient de dormir. Trop de temps penchée sur ma plaque de lino dans la même position. Les risques du métier 🤷‍♀️

What do you think of these tiny blocks ? I already call my little prints ‘mini prints’ (Which means « tiny print » in French). So I’d like to call these « mimi prints ». Just by changing one little letter, that means « cute print ». 🙃

I’m going at my own pace at the moment. After finishing the Lotus kakemono, I spent several days with shoulder pains that prevented me from sleeping. Too much time bent over my lino block in the same position. It’s a risky job 🤷‍♀️

C’est un post qui arrive in extremis pour vous présenter cette estampe tout juste terminée et réalisée dans le cadre du « Black+Red » challenge organisé par le @pressingmattersmag

Il s’agit d’une linogravure inspirée de l’ikebana, art floral japonais. Avec la couleur rouge, j’avais envie de donner un sens de lecture à mon illustration, insuffler la vie et l’impression que l’on observe la fleur de lotus s’épanouir devant nos yeux.

J’adore la finesse et l’équilibre que l’on retrouve dans certaines formes d’arts japonais. J’y trouve un sens de l’harmonie profondément proche du mien, quelque chose qui m’émeut et résonne en moi.

This post comes at a last minute to present this just-finished print, made as part of the ‘Black+Red’ challenge organised by @pressingmattersmag

It’s a linocut inspired by ikebana, a Japanese floral art. With the color red, I wanted to give my work a sense of reading, breathe life into it and create the feeling that we’re watching the lotus flower blossom right in front of our eyes.

I love the delicacy and balance there is in certain forms of Japanese art. There’s a sense of harmony in it that’s very close to my own, something that moves me, a strong resonance.

Le temps fait le yo-yo par ici ! 🌧️☀️ J’avance sur mes lotus. La gravure est terminée mais je suis encore dans les tests d’impression. Je voulais tenter deux couleurs, rouge et noir, sur un papier très texturé. Le résultat n’est pas à la hauteur. L’encre rouge s’étale très mal et le papier texturé donne un effet un peu flouté. Tous les linograveurs savent qu’il y a deux journées types : le jour où tout roule comme sur des roulettes, et le jour où l’univers te dit d’aller te recoucher. Bref, je vais continuer d’expérimenter jusqu’à sortir un tirage à la hauteur 🤞

I’m currently working on my lotus. The carving is finished but I’m still doing some printing tests. I wanted to try two colours, red and black, on a beautiful, highly textured paper that I’ve never used before. The result didn’t live up to my expectations. The red ink spreads very badly and the textured paper gives a slightly blurred effect. All linocut artists know that there are two typical days: the day when everything runs like a well-oiled machine, and the day when the universe tells you to go back to bed. Anyway, I’m going to keep experimenting until I come up with a print that’s up to scratch.

Quick question for people who speak English around here: do you say « it’s yo-yoing » when you’re talking about erratic weather?
